NALEO Educational Fund to Host National Phone Bank in Partnership with NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises for National Citizenship Day Hotline operators will be available nationwide to answer questions regarding naturalization and the U.S. citizenship application process

WASHINGTON, D.C. The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund announced a nationwide partnership with NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises to host a national phone bank assisting residents in applying for U.S. citizenship during this year’s National Citizenship Day. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Office of Immigration Statistics, more than 9.1 million lawful permanent residents or “green card holders” are potentially eligible to naturalize. However, this year, the monthly average number of naturalization applications fell by more than 40,000 compared to the 2020 fiscal year average. “With Latinos making up at least 41 percent of those who are eligible to naturalize, we are thrilled to partner with Telemundo on this important day to help lawful permanent residents across the country with the naturalization process,” said Arturo Vargas, NALEO Educational Fund Chief Executive Officer. “Events celebrating National Citizenship Day are a major part of civically engaging the community.” Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, NALEO Educational Fund has continued its naturalization efforts virtually, with this year’s Citizenship Day events following suit. In addition to the partnership with Telemundo, NALEO Educational Fund has commenced hosting multiple virtual workshops across the nation during the week of National Citizenship Day to help eligible individuals with naturalization questions and the citizenship application process. The upcoming New York Naturalization Workshop with New York State Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards will take place Friday, September 17, and Saturday, September 18, 2021. Individuals interested in participating in these virtual workshops can call NALEO Educational Fund’s toll-free bilingual hotline at 888-839-8682.
