Republican Super PAC Targeting Lubbock Democratic Congressional Candidates Challenging Representativ

LUBBOCK, TX–On Friday, Lubbock County Democratic Party Chairman Stuart Williams responded to reports of a republican Super PAC targeting local democrats challenging U.S. Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-Lubbock). Amid a contentious local debate about the repeal of the Affordable Care Act known as Obamacare, two democratic challengers have emerged early: Dan Epstein and Miguel Levario. Both Democratic candidates are employed by the Texas Tech University System. A university official has confirmed that America Rising PAC recently requested employment records for both candidates. He said this matters because: America Rising is a Super PAC known for producing opposition research on Democratic Party members. The conservative-leaning political action committee was created to spread negative stories about congressional Democratic incumbents and candidates through digital channels and local news media. During the 2016 election cycle, America Rising spent millions of dollars to smear Democratic candidates. The Super PAC's early focus on Texas CD-19 is significant and signals a vulnerability of Arrington as an incumbent. The Chairman's Statement: "Lubbock's CD-19 is now a swing district because Representative Arrington has continually chosen to vote against Texas values. As the late U.S. House Speaker Tip O'Neill used to say: "all politics is local". When out-of-state Super PAC's such as America Rising are worried about Lubbock you know it's time for common sense leadership in Congress."
