Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association to Host the 2023 Texas Firefighter Summer Games

(LUBBOCK, TX) - Lubbock Sports in partnership with the Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association is pleased to announce Lubbock as the host for the 2023 Texas Firefighter Summer Games to be held Sunday July 16, 2023 through Saturday, July 22, 2023 at various facilities and venues across the city of Lubbock.

With a mission to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among fellow firefighters and their families, nearly 1,000 professional firefighters from Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas will gather across Lubbock for the 2023 games. Sporting events include archery, basketball, cornhole, golf and pickleball. This event is projected to attract over 5,000 attendees and have an estimated economic impact of over $1.3 million.

“Our motto is ‘Fitness and Friendship Among Firefighters’. Lubbock really promoted this during our visit,” said Eric Harr, Texas Firefighter Games president. “Lubbock created a very friendly and welcoming environment. There is a willingness to put the best foot forward to represent Lubbock in a grand way. Texas Tech was so helpful as well.”

Harr said the board was impressed with Lubbock’s central location within the region. As the “Hub City”, Lubbock is an ideal destination to host an event with its proximity to communities across the five-state area.

“The other reason we chose Lubbock was the location,” he said. “We knew it was away from the I-35 corridor but, our thought was with the connections from Lubbock is to reach out to our surrounding states that are able to participate. Lubbock provided opportunity and a closer location for New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.”

When considering a host destination, the diversity of facilities across the city played a key role in the decision. As a multi-sport event, access to venues capable of hosting different events was crucial to the success of the games. Transportation was also considered.

”The Lubbock Professional Firefighters Association is proud and grateful for the opportunity to partner with Lubbock Sports to host the 2023 Texas Firefighter Summer games,” said Joseph Wallace, president of Lubbock Professional Firefighters. “We are excited and can’t wait to see our fellow brother and sister firefighters come to Lubbock to not only compete but to highlight what makes our profession so great. Family, dedication, and talented individuals.”

Since 1983, professional firefighters representing cities across the state began competing against other Texas Fire Departments in a myriad of sporting events. Today, local, state and regional fire departments meet annually in the rotating host city beginning the third week of July.
