Health Alert: Coronavirus Disease

The City of Lubbock Health Department is prepared should there be a case of novel Coronavirus disease or COVID-19. The department is closely monitoring the situation and is following our long-standing public health plans that have successfully been used to respond to other outbreaks such as H1N1. There are no cases in the Lubbock area, however the department is working with the city office of Emergency Management, our local health authority, businesses, schools and health care partners to prepare for the possibility of local cases.

The goals of the health department at this time are to:

  • Disseminate information to local health care providers so they can identify those at risk

  • Notify the public about risks and who to reduce their own risk

  • Investigate all suspected cases of COVID19

Those at greatest risk for COVID-19 are individuals who have traveled to an area with local transmission. People who have traveled and develop a fever and upper respiratory symptoms should call their medical provider or the health department.

The risk to the general public from Coronavirus remains low in Lubbock. However, there are steps to prevention the spread of respiratory illness like Coronavirus, colds and the flu.

Wash your hands frequently.

Cover your cough.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

Disinfect surfaces.

Avoid contact with people who are sick.

If youā€™re sick, stay home.
