LULAC SUMMIT TO DRAFT DREAMER DECLARATION

Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), says a Dreamer Summit being held in Dallas, Texas Saturday, April 13th is inviting participants to help draft a document setting out a clear path forward for a bipartisan DACA solution.

“We’re done with just talking about what Dreamers are facing or by marching, protesting and getting arrested with nothing more to show for it except for the feeling of momentary hope,” says Domingo Garcia, National President. “This event is truly different because the young people leading this forum are committed to creating their own blueprint for how Congress can finally pass immigration reform and LULAC believes strongly our elected officials on both sides of the aisle should listen,” adds Garcia.

The upcoming forum will assemble a broad cross section of leaders from community organizations, elected office and corporate supporters to listen and engage with Dreamers. U.S. Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas and U.S Representative Veronica Escobar, (D-El Paso) are among the notables scheduled to attend. Breakout morning sessions will focus on DACA, Asylum, Border Wall and Immigration themes. Also, the afternoon discussions will center on developing policy recommendations and resolutions for action to be forwarded to Congress and President Trump.

“For 90-years, LULAC has been the chief civil rights advocate for in the United States during some of the most difficult times but witnessing Dreamers and Latinos their families living in fear for years is inhumane,” stated Garcia. “We refuse to be used as political piñatas for another election cycle or worse yet to be forced to wait until after 2020. We demand a pathway to citizenship and legalization for our families. This Dreamer Summit is an important step towards achieving that goal once and for all,” he added.
