The Brewery LBK and Flippers Tavern Collaborate for International Women’s Day

The Brewery LBK. February 22, 2019 – The Brewery LBK and their friends from Flipper’s Tavern will join the celebration and brew a special IPA dedicated to advancing the power of women and diversity to strengthen our community. A post brew day party will begin at 4pm on March 8, and $1 of every pint sold will benefit the YWCA of Lubbock. Four weeks later, the finished product will be served at the Collaboration Beer Release Party April 6, 6pm at Flippers Tavern during their annual Spring Festival. In celebration of International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8th, Female brewers across the globe will create a special beer in celebration of the empowerment & equality of women. This event is spearheaded by the Pink Boots Society, an organization comprised of women who brew beer professionally, inviting other women into their breweries to learn this unique experience. In addition, each brewery celebrating Pink Boot Collaboration Brew Day will be using a hop blend from Yakima Chief Hops that was created especially for this international event. The Pink Boots Society was created to assist, inspire and encourage women beer industry professionals to advance their careers through education. At the heart of the brewing operations is one of only a handful of female brewers in the country, Sally Taylor. Overseeing the demanding brewing tasks, Sally collaborates styles & flavors with owners Mike Ngheim and West Table Chef and owner, Cameron West. Beers are created with a chef-driven mentality and often incorporate seasonal and local ingredients. The Brewery LBK is the cornerstone to the lower level retail area of the historic Pioneer Building where all beer styles are handcrafted on site and available in the industrial styled brewery with an expansive dog friendly patio. Among the permanent selections are a crowd favorite Chilton Witbier, IPA, Pilsner, Irish Red Ale and a Brown Ale that placed among the top in its category at the Great American Brew Festival in Denver, Colorado last year. As part of the ever-changing varieties, they have created amazing seasonal and experimental beers such as a Belgian Tripel, Mexican Porter, Smoked Pineapple Ale, Peach Ale and Nitro Stout to round out a full menu of beers. Flippers Tavern opened their doors to Lubbock’s only gourmet hotdogs and tavern. The interior décor of Flips can only be described as eclectic and one of a kind in Lubbock. Flips owners bought out the remains of a pinball repair facility that was destroyed in the Hurricane Katrina floods. Many of the artistic features of those vintage pinball machines now adorn the walls and tables of this local Ave Q hotspot. Flippers is family friendly and also offers a large dog friendly patio. Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day was born from their members’ desire to take part in International Women’s Day by raising the profile of women’s roles in the beer industry. Chapters and members of Pink Boots Society get together along with supporting breweries and individuals, put on their pink boots and brew their chosen beer style. Pink Boots Society splits proceeds from sales of this collaboration brew with participating chapters. The revenue is applied to educational scholarships and programming for its members. Yakima Chief Hops also donates $3 from every pound sold to Pink Boots Society for education and programming. Contact Bryan Hildebrand – bryanhildebrand@gmail.com for more information.
