LPD Rolls Out New Crime Prevention Program

(LUBBOCK, TX) – Criminals, you’ve been warned. The Lubbock Police Department is rolling out a new investigative and crime prevention tool to help curb crimes here in the Hub City.

SafeCam is a widely used and successful program in police departments across the country, and now it will be used to strengthen the partnership between Lubbock Police Officers and the community members they serve.

The concept is simple. Businesses and residents have the opportunity to register their security cameras with LPD. People registering will give basic information such as their name, address, how many security cameras are operational and the direction they are pointed.

By compiling a list of known security cameras in neighborhoods, officers will be able to streamline investigations and directly contact residents or businesses who potentially caught suspects on camera. This partnership helps speed up the process of identifying and arresting suspects to prevent more crimes from occurring.

Security camera video is invaluable for investigators. SafeCam will make it easier to quickly solve neighborhood crimes and allow officers to take a proactive approach to stopping crime sprees.

The information provided to LPD remains completely confidential, and in no way are officers able to view video unless it is voluntarily provided by the owner. To register your security cameras please go to WWW.LubbockPolice.Com and click on the ‘SafeCam Program’ tab. Residents and businesses can voluntarily register their information and can opt out of the program at any time.
