Coordinated Terrorist Attack Exercise to be held on October 27, 2023
During the week of October 23, 2023, the Texas Department of Public Safety and our federal, state, and local partners will conduct a statewide, complex, coordinated terrorist attack exercise. In Lubbock, this exercise will involve multiple law enforcement agencies, fire departments, the City and County of Lubbock 9-1-1, the City of Lubbock Office of Emergency Management, Texas Tech University, the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport, University Medical Center, and EMS.
On Friday, October 27, part of the exercise will be held at Berl Huffman Athletic Complex near North Loop 289 and Landmark Lane. This exercise is being conducted to evaluate and improve our overall preparedness for an emergency event. Although this incident is not real, the response during the exercise will be practiced in a manner that is as realistic as possible.
For safety and coordination purposes, the areas being utilized for the exercise will be clearly marked and not open to the public or the media.
Spokespersons for the Texas Department of Public Safety, City of Lubbock Office of Emergency Management, and Lubbock Fire and Rescue will be available for interviews on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Office of Emergency Management. The Office of Emergency Management is located at 1515 E. Ursuline Street, Lubbock, Texas, 79403. Since this is a secured facility, please inform us beforehand if you plan to attend this media interview opportunity. You may contact me or Derek Delgado with Lubbock Fire and Rescue at806-544-2534.
