Trump’s new “taxpayer first” budget leaves out almost half of America - Opinion

“US president Donald Trump’s budget, named ‘A new foundation for American greatness,’ would trim over $1 trillion from programs to help the poor and lower middle class over the next decade, with cuts targeting food stamps, subsidies on student loans, and tax credits for some people with children.”

The most revealing quote came from Mick Mulvaney, the director of the Office of Management and Budget: “This is a taxpayer-first budget. For the first time in a long time the administration has written a budget through the eyes of the people who are paying the taxes.”

It’s the tired makers v. takers narrative – the idea that 55 percent of Americans pay taxes for everyone else. Of course, that narrative fails to include gasoline taxes, payroll taxes, state and local taxes . . .

Here’s a quick Quartz explanatory graphic from News TAco.
